the silver lining

Today sucked. I woke up grouchy after having those kinds of dreams you are so happy to wake up from and then they stick with you all day creeping you out, you know? Anyway, I came out to a seriously messy house and kids who were late and disorganized and needy. Not a great start to the day. I decided to get things in order. I started by filling up my garbage. I have kept too many things around that I was going to "get to". Gone. What a relief, seriously. I made breakfast burritos which I've had the stuff to do them for a week and just haven't. Done. Another relief. I decided to go to the bank and Wal Mart with the little ones but chose to do lunch at Chic Fil A first. As I was walking in, Stephen called and said he missed the bus could I come get him. They had a half day today. Well, no actually, I can't. I'm just getting to lunch. I told him to go to the library for an hour and then I would be there.

Got our food, was putting it out on the table when the phone rings again. Principal. Dalin's in trouble again. Stopped unpacking the food expecting to have to leave to go get him. I lucked out, he has cafeteria duty and has to sit in the office after school for two weeks. After lunch I was too cranky to do anything else so I dropped the little ones off at home and went to get Stephen. No Stephen. He had gotten a ride home but "forgot" to call and tell me. At this point, I'm boiling. I made him wash the car to pay me back for the gas he just wasted. I tried to lay down with Katy but I was too mad to sleep. I decided to go do a little birthday shopping. I knew exactly what I wanted.....SHOES!!

I found these little cuties. The picture doesn't do them justice since the sparkles can't glisten like they do in real life, but these are the silver lining to my awful day. Thanks Dad and Jo! Now if I can just find a super cute purse for summer!

I had parent teacher conferences in the afternoon and let me tell you, I was not in the mood to hear anything about my kids. At this point, they were all on their way out! They went fine so I went to the track meet and then home to make dinner. Once all the kids got home we had a family meeting to set up the new rules about their unfavorable behavior lately. The night ended with everyone willingly cleaning their room and picking up their stuff. (I threatened to take it all after they went to school tomorrow!) Hopefully we can figure out a way to get things running smoothly again. Maybe the wooden ruler I bought to smack their hands with will help things along. Nice Mom has exited the building!!

On a positive note, tomorrow is my birthday and I'm looking forward to lunch with Mom and then my party on Friday. I even bought really cute plates and a banner for my party. I'm sure they were meant for a little girl's party but they were so cute I couldn't resist!!
