Staycation Day 2 - Humanitarian

Day 2 of staycation was to do Humanitarian Projects. I went to the Humanitarian Center and got some of the supplies and distributed them among the family. ViEtta, Kristi and my mom sewed school bags and those of us who don't sew, bought the supplies to go in them. Joy purchased tons of supplies to make hygiene kits so she brought that stuff to be assembled. My family worked on cutting and sewing little pigs to be stuffed. It turned out to be a little more challenging than I anticipated, but they all helped and learned a little something, I hope. I let each one have a turn on the machine, which was easy for some and not so easy for others. Some had a little bit of attitude about the whole thing, which really frustrated me, but what can you do?

We all met together at a church building and had sub sandwiches, fruit, chips and cookies. Even the youngest were able to help in some way. The cousins have really enjoyed playing together and we have loved getting to know everyone just a little better. Today was a short day, but very productive and hopefully all felt good about what they accomplished. We sewed and stuffed 20 school bags, put together 30 or so hygiene kits and stuffed and sewed 13 pigs. Not too bad!

Katy and Brooklyn

Nick, Chelsey and Whitley cut out the pig patterns

Stephen struggled on the machine, but we made him keep trying.

Katy helping mom sew pig ears

Chelsey and Nick having a turn. Nick did really well and sewed probably more than anyone.

Dalin and Brooklyn had their turns on the surger. It was a little easier than the machine. I wish I would have gotten a good picture of mom, but she hadn't "dressed" for the day....hehe. Since we weren't able to finish, Whitley spent the night with her that night and the two of them finished sewing the rest of the pigs.

Having lunch

Bo, Emma, Katy and Christian at the kids table

Laura helped the younger girls sort the school supplies

Grandma and Joy helped the big boys sort and fill hygiene kits

Brooklyn, Kelsey and Kenzie stuffed the pigs

Whitley, Kylee and Derrick were waiting for stuffed pigs so they could hand stitch them together.

Sydney, Branson, Rhett and Dalin put all the supplies into the book bags.

It was Chelsey's 17th birthday so we got her some cupcakes to celebrate. She had just been to breakfast with Bo (her Bo) and some friends. He got her Wicked tickets for her birthday. She could hardly contain herself. Love you Chels!

Cool projects, and a great idea. Happy Birthday Chelsey!
(Let me guess...your mom didn't have her eye makeup on, right?)
