Florida - the way home

Ok, so the truck is fixed and we are headed home. Glade had a meeting on Monday morning, so we were a little pressed for time. I wish I knew exactly what day we left, but I don't recall. I think it was Friday morning. We weren't going to do much sightseeing since we spent so much time in Florida. Glade was feeling like a little nap so I drove for a couple of hours. I kept noticing a weird film on my windshield. I had washed it several times, but it kept reappearing. I didn't want to wake Glade so I just waited till he woke up himself. Sure enough, exactly what I had expected, but couldn't believe....Steve's truck was still leaking fuel. All that time in Florida and four grand later and we still had the same problem. It was worse now because instead of being able to go 500 miles, we were only getting about 250 before we had to change the oil. What a pain.

The only sight seeing we did was to New Orleans. We drove around French Quarters and over the bridge. Steve and Joy both went on their missions there so it was a little nostalgic, which was fun. I couldn't believe Bourbon Street. Like a whole mile of porn. I kept directing my children's attention elsewhere. Very naughty. The architecture was beautiful to look at though. The streets are very narrow and there was no parking so it was tricky with our big van, not to mention the Thing we were towing behind us. We did get lots of "thumbs up" and cheers about the car. We really wanted to eat some authentic craw fish or whatever they have down there, but couldn't find a restaurant with parking. Bummer.

We continued on with a mostly uneventful way home. The very last night in Texas we hit a really big storm, loved it. Glade was in a hurry to get home, but I didn't want to drive through the night, so I proposed that I stay in a hotel with the kids and he and his parents head home in the truck. Glade didn't think it was a good idea and so we had a little tift that left me in tears and him throwing his hands in the air. His dad ended up staying with me and checking us into a seriously disgusting hotel. I wasn't super happy at this point. Not exactly what I had planned. I was more thinking a good nights sleep, no hurry in the morning, nice drive home. Instead, roach motel, 5 hours of sleep and a hurried ride home. Whatever, I was just happy to be home!!!

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville

A street lined with HUGE trees that hung completely over the road

This was a cute little swap market. We didn't get out, but it looked pretty much like the same stuff you can buy in Mexico, plus all the Mardi Gras stuff.

This was my favorite. Half way there!!!

Nasty ol' Bourbon street

Another night of dinner in the back of the van. This is one of the Things we went to get.

The kids hanging on "The Thing" made me think of Grease or Footloose! They should have been singing and dancing!!! Dacia
