Published Poet

Katy won second place in a poetry contest at her school.  There are four campuses, and two children were chosen from each grade from each campus.  Then they chose the top three and she was second place. Her classmate Berkley won first place.  All winners were invited to a special dinner where they were awarded a medal and a book with all the winners poems and essays in it.  First graders were asked to choose a place and write about their five senses.  Here is her award winning poem: 

California

Looks like kids building sand castles and having fun.

Feels like the crashing waves pushing against me.

Tastes like the nasty ocean water getting in my mouth.

Sounds like the beautiful rippling waves at night.

Smells like families' lunches at noon.

AGYG Auditions

This last week has been full and all consuming with auditions for Annie Get Your Gun.  I was planning on being in this show, but about a week before auditions, I found out they still didn't have anyone to do choreography so I offered to do that instead.  Auditions are always exhausting.  It's about 11 hours of watching people sing and dance and trying to decide who should be your stars.  It's such a big puzzle to put together and sometimes people you really want to use, just don't fit into the puzzle.  It's a very heartbreaking process.  Because of some scout things and girls camp,  Dalin, Bo and Katy are the only ones participating.  Now that the cast is chosen, we jump right into twice a week rehearsals.  Always fun to have a new set of songs running through your brain!

Stephen

Stephen will be graduating in just a little over a month!  His mission call should come in the next week as well.  We went to take some "senior pictures", but had a mis-communication with the gal taking them.  Since we were already there, I just took some with my phone.  The lighting wasn't very good and since I didn't have a real camera, we didn't have a lot of options.  But we did get a few good ones.  As soon as we know where he's going on his mission, we'll send out graduation announcements.

Easter Pagaent

This day was long!  Started out with a trip to the DMV to get Rhett's license.  Glade had met a guy who was 24 and never had a license so he offered for me to take him with us so he could get a permit.  I'm all for helping out, but I totally suck at making conversations with strangers.  Anyway, he was a very nice boy and it was awkward, but fine.  Unfortunately he was unaware that he needed his birth certificate, so he went for nothing.  Rhett failed his test as well.  Didn't come to a complete stop, turned his blinker on too late and didn't look over his shoulder when switching lanes.  Nothing too serious, but of course, we had tears.  So it looks like we'll go back again next week.  

After that, we went to Costco and lunch.  Chelsey and Mom were there as well.  I was going on 6 hours of sleep, which is NOT enough for me, so after taking the boy home, I went home for a nap.  We had plans to go to the Easter pageant that night so I was going to need my rest!  The family we were taking to the pageant cancelled last minute, so we gulped down some Taco Bell and hurried to the Temple.  We were able to get pretty decent seats and saw lots of people we knew.  Unfortunately, our little ones were really wiggly and whiny.  Now I remember why I stayed home with them last year.  It's always a lovely performance and the weather wasn't even a bit chilly.  Towards the end, as it was coming to a conclusion, all the cast started filtering out on stage during the final song.  Bo leans over and whispers "I think this is the curtain call."  If there were a curtain, you'd kind of be right, lol.  Katy slept through most of it, but woke up just in time for the big ending with Jesus rising in the sky.  I'm glad we went. ♥

Before the show, the cast roams around the audience and greets people. Katy wanted to pet the lamb, so we did!

A Chore

Ya know when you know something is good for you, but you just can't bring yourself to do it?  Like, eating broccoli.  But you also have this looming sense of guilt because you know it's really the right thing to do?  That's how I feel about blogging right now.  I'm positive I'll be sad one day when I have so many missed memories and events that never got recorded, but as each day creeps by and I think "I should blog about that"...the dread of sitting down and writing it all out ultimately wins.

I've had so many awesome experiences as I've served in the temple and I haven't recorded a single one.  My kids have done some neat things and I've barely mentioned them.  I used to love to sit down and write it all out.  I couldn't wait to have a free moment to get it all down.  I'm just not feeling it.  Ok...so yah....that's all I got.  Not feeling it.


But if you've recently noticed any totally rambling posts about nothing, that would be because I committed to just blogging, with no purpose....to try and like it again.  But I'm not there yet, I somewhat fear commitment. I can't believe we can send a man to the moon, but no one has come up with a way to take my thoughts straight to paper with no effort from me!   Sheesh.....

Nothing New

It's been almost a month since I last blogged and I really can't think of much new that has happened.  Pretty boring around here.  Let's see if I can come up with anything for a quick summary:

Kids are still doing track

Had spring break, but everyone was off at different times so we did NOTHING

Still waiting on Bishop to finish Stephen's papers

Katy got second in a poetry contest, but I'll blog about that when we go to her special dinner

Rhett didn't get the part of Benjy, but they asked him to be a dancer in Saturday's Warrior.  Don't have many details on that yet.

Stephen went to Chicago for a few days for a choir trip.

Seriously, besides being plenty busy, we also do a lot of nothing.  That's about to change however, since it's April and the end of the school year is coming.  My calendar gets a new addition practically daily.  THEN comes summer....

Mission Time

It's official.  Stephen has finished his mission papers and has them submitted.  He still has to interview with the Bishop and Stake Pres, but then he'll be complete.  He turns 18 in April and could leave anytime after graduation.  It would be awesome if he could have his call sometime in the next month.  Unfortunately he has to lose 25lbs before they will clear him medically, but we understand he has until his departure date to do that.  He's trying to get on that and get himself healthy so he can head out sooner than later.  As much as I will miss this sweet boy of mine, I'm so excited for him to be taking this next step.  Onward ever onward...
