Cooking and Running

Family Circle

Bo comes to me this morning and says "I was in your mouth when I was a baby". I'm thinking "huh?" He proceeds to give me his theory on how he got out of my tummy. After explaining it to me, he then rethinks it and says he wasn't in my mouth and that there is no way out of my tummy. I just continued to eat my breakfast with a nod of "hmm." Then is says "sooooo, how DID I get out of your tummy?" Of course all the kids are on pins and needles to hear what I tell him. I started with the easiest "The doctor helped you get out." He does a big eye roll and head nod and says "oh, right!" (in total agreeance) Then Rhett chimes in "you don't go out the top you go through the EXIT."

Sunday was enjoyable to stay home with the kids and watch conference. They did mostly pretty well at sitting AND listening. We ate cinnamon rolls in between. My kids didn't love the cream cheese frosting either. I will have to try again with more goo and less frosting. Had a small family dinner at which I made something I have never made before. I have been quite adventurous in the kitchen lately. Last night I made my first home made chicken pot pie. It was good! My kids of course whined about the veggies.

Yesterday we got all our peaches canned. They are all floating. I have researched that and everything said it was fine, but I couldn't get any hard evidence of why. I still have a whole box of pears that are deteriorating quickly, but I can't find any jars.

This morning I hauled myself to the gym. I did 6 miles again, 4 running, two walking. I was 3 minutes faster than the last time I did it. I think I also figured out how to not have my butt hurt. I think when I get tired, my form gets really sloppy. If I concentrate on keeping my torso straight and my arms tight, it seemed to not bother me. I have a long way to go before I think I can run the turkey trot very successfully. Glade has been going 9 miles. He is an animal. I don't know how he does it.

perfect ending

Ok, so we went to dinner tonight. While Kristie and I sat and waited for the guys to show up, she points out this boy at a table behind us. At first she was thinking "Kylee would think he was really cute." Then she says "is that the kid you picked out for Chelsey?" Sure enough. There he was with his Dad and brothers. I couldn't say nothing now, could I? I went over and introduced myself as the crazy lady. His dad recalled the story. I also mentioned that I knew Angela (austin's dad's cousin). It was crazy and a little awkward, but totally funny. Glade walked in while I was talking to them so he introduced himself as well. I'm sure his dad was thinking "stay far away austin!" Anyway, I told them I knew where to look him up in 3 years or so. I texted Chelsey right after that and of course she was, again, mortified. She will thank me someday! Or have me committed, who knows. It was really funny though, and as I like to say meant to be.

Cinnamon Rolls

Look at these beauties! My first homemade cinnamon rolls. Traditionally we bribe the children with them as incentive to sit quietly through the first session of conference on Sunday morning. Typically I just buy the ones you roll out of a can. This year since I kind of figured out bread, I thought I would give it a shot. Viola! They taste almost as good as they look. The frosting is a cream cheese frosting and I'm not sure if i love that or not. Either way, YUMMY!

This morning Katy woke me up at 5 am as usual. But usually Glade and the girls are up and take care of her. Not this day. Then the phone rang at 6am. What the heck? It was Chelsey's work telling her she didn't need to be in till 10:30. Thanks for the early notice. Since now the whole house was awake, I thought I would go down and help sort the produce. There were plenty of people there as I suspected there would be. The worst part was that the truck showed up an hour late so we just stood there waiting. When it finally got there, all sorts of people were lined up waiting. Everyone pitched in so it went pretty quickly. The only benefit to going is that you get first dibs at extra produce. Today I got and extra cantaloupe, lettuce, 2 bags of carrots and a carton of cherry tomatoes. That, in and of itself, might make it worth going. After I got my produce, I went and parked outside the neighborhood and took off for my run. The weather is much cooler in the mornings now. I still have a hard time pushing myself outside though. Not to mention, it's hard to run holding water so I haven't been taking any. I need water! I thought I ran about 3 and a half miles. When I clocked it after, it was just under 3. Bummer. It was still a workout I guess.

I planned to can peaches today, but there was too much to do elsewhere. I had to run Chelsey to work right in the middle of conference. Love the DVR! Brooklyn, Rhett and Stephen all came with me and we went birthday shopping for Brooklyn. She ended up with $50 worth of Barbie stuff. I talked her out of the Bratz. She was happy. She also got a new pink watch -ooooooh! Stephen and Rhett also bought watches. Rhett bought one on clearance for $4. Before we had even gotten home, he had tried to rip off all the security stuff and broken the buckle. Instead of telling me and seeing if I could fix it, he just threw it away (sigh), that child. We stopped at a boutique my friend Tracie was selling jewelry at and I bought two new beautiful bracelets. I love bracelets. We headed home, had lunch and put the babies down for naps. I had to go back and pick up Chelsey.

While I was gone, Glade got home. I got to see him for about 2 minutes. He was busy putting his camping stuff away and I had to run Chelsey to a baptism of a friend of hers. When I got back, I could hardly stand to go inside, the weather today was Fabulous! Whitley and I decided to hang our Halloween lights and decorations. We were short a string of lights so it doesn't look exactly like I planned but I think it will still be cute. Can't really tell till it gets dark. Glade and the big boys left for the Priesthood session of conference and I'm on my way to meet them for dinner. Tradition. All the wives meet up and wait for them, then we all have dinner. It's a nice tradition. Good weekend!

Cars and Costumes

I just read an article that reinforces that Satan is very much at large. I'm trying to link it, but I haven't figured that out yet. Silly lawsuits about having a day of prayer. Isn't you saying I can't pray a violation of MY rights? I'll never understand how anyone can make this seem logical.

Today started early with a trip to the car fix it shop. I hate my car. I have not even had it two years and have already spent around 2 grand in repairs. So much for it being economical. On the way to drop off the car, Katy screamed and screamed . We thought it was just cuz we didn't have her binky. When Chelsey got back there to try to help her, she realized there were ants crawling all over her. Her carseat had been outside before we put it in the car. Poor thing. My mom came and got me from the shop and we went to drop some stuff off at a yard sale where they were trying to raise money for a kidney surgery. The whole time we were there, Katy and Bo were squealing and yelling "I want this!" Everyone was thoroughly amused including myself. Bo walked away with some Pokemon stuff (i hate pokemon) and Katy got a barbie car. Then we went back to Mom's house and looked at costumes. Bo was hilarious. First the "rock star" costume. It was way too big. Then the lion, he roamed around on all fours growling, perfect. Nope, then it was the Indian. He and Katy will both be Indians, so cute. Not so fast, Buzz Lightyear. I think this is the final winner. It was all very exciting for him. While running around in his Buzz costume, he kept telling me he needed a fishbowl for his head. I was barely listening as this made no sense to me. When I told him we would paint his hair green, he again told me "no, I need a fishbowl for my head." This time I got it, a space helmet- aka- fishbowl. I wish I had had my camera at this point, but I didn't. We just hung out there until my car was done, then we went to get it while the little ones napped (Chelsey was there).

I picked up my kids from school and we headed back to grandma's house. They were quite as excitable as the little ones, but still struggled with that final decision. Brooklyn did the most trying on. stuff is so fun. We ordered pizza and made all the final gatherings. I think we ended up with: Whitley - princess (my old prom dress) Nick - Surfer Dude Stephen - a Mime Rhett - Pirate Brooklyn - Indian princess Dalin - Red Ninja Bo - Buzz Lightyear Katy - Little Indian princess. We still have four week, so who knows! These are just pictures of the craziness. Can you believe how many costumes we have?? If anyone is interested in borrowing some, feel free! We have every superhero, wizard of oz characters, indians, inmates, harry potter capes, lion, angels, brides, witches (good and bad), , gypsie, the list goes on and on.

Biking Results

The results are in - legs:fine, back:fine, arms:fine, rear:NOT FINE! Holy Crap. I rode so my muscles wouldn't hurt and now I can hardly even sit. I'm totally not exaggerating. I need one of those doughnut pillows. Very crazy.

Today I am helping Chelsey with her Young Women in Excellence project. She wanted to just use something she has already done and be done with it, but I'm highly opposed to that. The whole point is to spend 10 hours learning something new. She isn't happy, but too bad. We have spent the morning making bread. Shocking huh? She thinks its very boring and probably cheaper to just buy it. I explained about having a "skill". I don't know if she got it or not, but we completed 6 loaves. In the next few days we will be canning peaches and making peach jam. Something else she is not excited about. Someday she will either thank me or apologize that she didn't listen. Speaking of peaches, I can't find a box of jars anywhere. I knew I waited too long. Anyone have extra jars I could use and replace them when the stores are restocked? If not, I think I will just freeze them, you can do that right?

Glade went out of town today and now I'm on my own. I hate it when he leaves. I'm really not comparing, Heather. I would never want what you have. But I do hate it when he is gone. Tomorrow, instead of a date night, I'm taking all the kids to my mom's to sort through Halloween costumes and see what we are going to have for this year. That should be fun, we will order pizza or something. I love Halloween. I'm going to start getting all my decorations out this weekend.

Trying something new

Today I decided to try something new. Since the day I went 6 miles, my adducter muscle has been really sore. I've tried resting, ice, anti inflamatories and nothing works. The minute I start to run it hurts. I've been trying to do other things that will give me cardio without hurting my butt. I went bike riding. We have been storing Sherry's bike here for a while so I thought I would take it for a spin. Glade pumped up the tires and tried to adjust the seat. I put on the helmet and away I went for a ride. I went 6 miles in about 30 minutes. I could have gone further, but my butt hurt! (different than the other kind of hurt) So much for finding a cardio that didn't hurt my butt. It actually went pretty well, only one little snag. I forgot to ask Glade how to do the gears. I played with them, but didn't have much luck. Basically I was on a really easy one that made me peddle a whole lot. I would definitely do a few things different if I did it again. (like sit on a pillow!) We will have to see how my legs feel tomorrow. I don't know how Glade does that for 20 or 30 miles. Anyway, it was a fun change.

the rest of Brooklyn's birthday

Well, she had a pretty good day for it being her birthday. We took her Taco Bell for lunch but got there just as she was throwing away the remnants of the lunch she packed. She ate it anyway. After dinner, we had about 15 minutes where everyone was actually at home so we opened presents and ate the brownies that Rhett had made for her. He did a pretty good job too! Her haul was small, but she enjoyed what was there. The real excitement comes when she gets to go spend her money she gets from Grandma and Grandpa Whitley and Grandpa Joe and Vickie. That's usually the highlight. So this is her opening her gifts.

This is a card Whitley had made for her. Whitley is very good about stuff like that.

This is one of the dresses Grandma Green got her.
A birthday wouldn't be complete without a chocolate covered baby.
Just say it....Ewwwww!
